Car Parking
For trailer towing vehicles
- At present we expect to be able to use Longholme, next to the boating lake, for trailer and towing vehicle parking. This gives good access to the schools boathouse and also the pontoon beyond the finish line for deboating. However, the schools boathouse hard can become congested and crews boating from this side of the river risk not being able to boat in time for your division. Please don't delay boating: be ready to get afloat as soon as the previous division has passed by the schools boathouse.
- An alternative option is to boat from the other side of the river, adjacent to The Embankment. With lower river banks, boating is possible along a much longer section of river with care, so there won't be such pressure on space between divisions. We pay to reserve a section of The Embankment from Tennyson Road to Bushmead Avenue. Only boat trailers and their associated towing vehicles should park here on event day, any other vehicle is liable to a parking ticket. Bedford Rowing Club will not get involved in any disputes about parking tickets for non-towing vehicles: you are on your own there.
- Trailers may be left there overnight before the event but we don't recommend this, it is at a club's own risk. We have no security provision for this stretch of road.
For competitors and supporters
- All of our Head race events are on Sundays, so many of the parking restrictions enforced with great zeal by Bedford Borough Council's parking attendants are relaxed. See the council's parking pages for details, including an interactive map.
Post-event prize collection
We pride ourselves in getting results calculated, checked and published before the last crews from a division are off the water, so ask that crews check our results online and come to the Registration desk on the first floor at Bedford Rowing Club to collect your prizes before you leave. However, we recognise that some crews need to depart before the last crews in your event have raced, so can make arrangements for prizes to be collected at subsequent head races, other competitions that our umpires are visiting or even by post (after payment of a small fee to cover tracked postage and packing). Please fill in our prize collection form to specify your choice.
